The rules
- Notice must be given in writing and be between 30 and 90 days, as set in your contract (Article 43).
- You keep working and are paid in full during the notice period.
- If either side cuts the notice short, they must pay the other the wage for the unserved days, known as pay in lieu of notice.
- Probation has shorter rules: for example 14 days' notice when an employer ends a contract during probation.
Worked example
Notice is given on 1 October 2026 with a 30-day notice period, so it ends on 31 October. If the employer asks the employee to leave on 21 October, 10 days are unserved. On a total salary of AED 9,000 (AED 300 a day), the pay in lieu is AED 3,000.
